Why is Faith, the Ultimate answer?
In our early classes, we learnt Sun rises in the East and sets in the west. So we thought Sun keeps revolving around Earth. This was taught for 2–3 years. Then you enter higher classes, and you were taught that Sun stays at the centre of Solar system and it is the Earth which is actually revolving around the Sun.
And If you entered a university and took Physics as a major, you will learn that actually everything is in relative motion with one another and it is the frame of view that matters. What I mean is that as long as you are on Earth and relatively in rest with it, the Sun is what is revolving. But if you are sitting on Sun(hypothetically) you will see that it is Earth that is revolving. If you are somewhere else you will see both Sun and Earthmoving. I am just explaining the relativity. The point from which you are trying to make observations makes the whole difference. So if you are on the moon you will see Earth revolving around the moon.
So everything is relative. Why am I telling this? It’s because I think this principle of relativity that everything is relative is one of the few things (or maybe the only thing) that is not in conflict among Atheists and Theists. Keep that in mind for now.
As far as Science goes, it tries to explain how things work, why is it so up to some extent and all. But God, the ultimate powerful being can explain anything except one question of course, about his own birth. That is so if we approach the concept of God as an answer to our big questions.
Take any scientific theory, let’s take the GTR. It explains the dynamics of the cosmos very accurately. It explains why Earth moves around Sun, why light bends when it passes by a heavy mass, why two masses attract each other, How the spacetime is warped by mass and the big black holes.
But it has an ultimatum, Why should Mass warp spacetime? Why?
Take any other theory, Light travels in the path of less time, it takes the path of least time from point A to point B. Science only says that it is so. It can make better guesses with least confliction with observations. Sometimes makes predictions. It has limitations, it can never tell that something is right, it can only say if something is wrong.
So what I am saying is that Science has its limits. Even after finding the Grand Unification Theory, Science may not be able to disprove God. I lack imagination, so can’t exactly think of ways to do that. (Actually I have a way to do it. and I am working on it, interested people can mail me here to discuss). And Science is never-ending.
Scientific theories are based on statistical data. They make observations and develop a theory which can explain this data. But the data belongs to the past. That data has limited observation space. So next observation may not satisfy the theory. They discard the theory and try to develop a new one. That’s why Science can never be complete. (Unless time travel to future is possible).
For example, if I drop an egg from a height of 10 feet onto hard ground. It breaks. I do this for a 100 times, egg breaks and I come up with a scientific theory that says the egg is covered with a shell, which is hard but not hard enough to withstand the impact when dropped. So according to theory, Egg does break every time it falls from such a height.
Let’s say I dropped it 101st time, and the egg doesn’t break. Who knows, maybe it stops breaking someday. We wouldn’t know what happens until it is done. The whole science of egg structure is wrong then. Science can only make a prediction. It can only say, based on past statistics the egg should break and so on. But it can’t say for 100% what should happen in the future. It can make a statistical prediction which isn’t an actual prediction.
Whereas if we take the theory of God, if he did exist, he can tell us what will happen when and where and how with 100% surety. And he can even disprove the whole Science just by merely a thought. If he says “let the Egg be unbreakable”, hoosh Science of egg is gone.
So I say God is the ultimate answer. If you can see what I mean by this, your lives become too easy. Everything is explained with a single sentence-“God is the reason behind all this”. You can just answer every “Why?” in your life with just two words “Because of GOD”.
Yet even this omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent and omnibenevolent is definitely not omniscient. Cause he doesn’t know how he came into existence. To be more precise, we couldn’t possibly know how he came into existence. Byword God, I meant God as an answer to our questions. Where did God come from? If there is some force that created it. Then where did that force come from? It is a never-ending question.
As we go on, we get to see that we human beings can never be capable of fully explaining the Universe. Maybe there is God, maybe not. Science is a never-ending process. As long as you believe in Science, you get to have fun answering why and how. But If you believe that God is the answer, I would say there is no point in living. Believing in Science is different from faith in God.
Faith exists in science too. Almost all the scientists believe that laws of the Universe tomorrow are going to be same as the one's yesterday, same as one's today. I call this ‘The ultimate belief of scientists’. But as I said above, nobody can prove that tomorrow is the same as today. Because we don’t yet have logical tools to do that. And scientific methods is incomplete that way.
At the end of the day, even your life’s work, your best scientific theories may be proved wrong. Newton’s theories were considered absolute for more than 200 years, now they are nothing more than approximations overthrown by some other precise theories. Instead, if you left all research and found peace in the faith of God, you can never be proved wrong and you will never be wrong, cause as I said, there isn’t a logical way (yet) to disprove God.
And guess what, you can answer all questions with a single answer. Isn’t it beautiful? It saves time, efforts, mental strain and you get to stay at peace.
If you aren’t convinced yet, let me tell you. However much you disagree, Union of scientists and God-believers are both people of faith. (I said union cause, scientists and God-believers sets aren’t exactly mutually exclusive). Their faith doesn’t lie in the same line, that’s all.
They have differences, scientists can act mighty by considering themselves brilliant in understanding things around them and God-believers can take pride in the greatness of their God. In the end, it doesn’t matter.
But let me save the strain of your life by telling the truth. They both are going to end up with the wrong answers. It’s just that one had peace all his life, the other had fun straining their brains. Some do both.
If you want peace, put your faith in God. If you want to act smart and probe things, strain your brain, put your faith in science and its ultimate belief. Just because you are able to see patterns in-universe and was intelligent than people around you doesn’t mean you are gonna find the truth. Ultimately you are doomed. You are doomed cause no (higher) truth can ever be established at all.
I think I have given a basic tour of what I wanted to say. To conclude, I am going to tell something important. Everyone who is stable in life is a man of faith, even scientists as I said are men of faith. It doesn’t matter if you put your faith in God, or in science. Faith in something is what gives man hope. And hope is best of all things to make a man live. It’s not living if you lose hope.
So find something or someone and put your faith in it. let it give you hope and a direction. And stay stable and don’t let anything shackle your faith cause stronger your faith, stronger you stand, peaceful you are going to be. Some say they have a gut feeling that their faith is right, some say something else. Justify it or not in whatever way you see fit, have faith.
As for me, I am a man of no faith. Yes, I am not stable but restless.
