Fable of a sailor
There was once a sailor boy who has come of age when they usually take up their own boats and start sailing.
Most of his boyhood was spent sailing with his father and uncles.
His first experience of facing a wave as tall as two stories is still fresh in his mind. The thrill of adventure and sailing for long periods away from land, in the midst of vast seas sowed in him seeds of love for sailing.
Everyone who knew him could see that he is a natural and some claimed that he is born to be a sailor. He used to blush at their comments.
Before the time of leading his own boat, he tried going solo on his small one-man boat. He would keep tripping over and had fun mostly.
Now in anticipation of his sailing career and the need to be more responsible, he started to wonder if he is capable of such a feat. He was never perfect, always seeking thrill and game.
Now that the time has come for him to be perfect(or so he thought) and responsible, he could see no sign of such capability in his past.
As the day neared, one where he will be presented his own boat by his father, he grew anxious. His trials on his small boat turned futile, although mostly due to the weather conditions and the sea overpowering his small vessel.
His anxiety added to his self-doubt and he got caught in the grip of fear.
On the day of getting his boat, he managed to express excitement and happiness. But inside, his self-doubt and anxiety made him want to run away.
Someday his cover will be gone, and people can see his impotence.
The following days, he looked out for perfect sea conditions. But the sea was never ideal, at least not as what he wanted.
Held by the fear of perfection, he kept waiting.
Days went by, months too. Slowly years went by and there never was an ideal day.
He grew old and died eventually, never having a chance to sail in his new boat.
